Why this site exists
ScapeSprout exists because starting a planted aquarium is harder than it should be. The products are easy to buy; the knowledge is scattered across decade-old forum threads, contradictory videos, and advice written for experts. Beginners drown in information and still lose their first plants to simple, preventable mistakes: too much light, CO2 switched on at the wrong time, rhizomes buried in substrate.
Our job is to close that gap. Every guide on this site is written for the person setting up their first or second tank, in plain language, in the order you actually need it, with the numbers checked twice before they reach you.
How our guides are made
- Researched against the hobby's reference points. Technical claims — CO2 levels, water parameters, fertilizer dosing, lighting schedules — are cross-checked against at least two independent specialist sources before publication: established planted-tank brands, specialist retailers, and long-running expert communities.
- Ranges, not false precision. Where good sources disagree, we publish the safe common range and say so. Aquariums are biological systems, not chemistry exams.
- Beginner consequences first. If a mistake can kill livestock or melt a tank full of plants, we say that up front, not in a footnote.
- Updated, not abandoned. Guides are revisited as Search Console data shows what readers actually struggle with, and corrections are made in the open with an updated date.
What we will never do
We do not sell placements in our guides, we do not copy specifications from product listings without checking them, and we do not publish fish disease or medication content — that belongs to veterinarians, not a plant site. Where a guide links to a product we may earn a commission; that relationship is explained in full on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
